What’s involved
When people come to counselling, there is a chance for the counsellor and client to get to know each other in what we call a therapeutic relationship.
A client describes it as ‘being really me, able to say exactly what I really feel’
We usually just sit together, and talk about what is going on for the client, at the present time, or in the past.
Each session takes about an hour, sometimes longer, and although that seems a long time, it actually goes quite quickly.
Each person’s needs are different so arrangements are made that suit the person as an individual.
The most important thing is that the person feels comfortable and trusts the counsellor.
